Our Beliefs
Who We Are
The beliefs at NorthCross make up the foundation of who we are. Our beliefs come directly from God through the pages of the Bible. We have divided our beliefs into these categories: God, Humanity, Salvation, Faith, Christian Living, The Bible. You can find a brief summary of those beliefs below. The heart and core of our beliefs is this: Jesus Changes Everything.
Triune God
There is only one true God. In the Bible God reveals himself as three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three persons in one God are all God. They are equal in power, glory, and in every other quality.
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 5:23
Humankind
Men and women are a special creation of God. We were made in God’s image - without sin and in perfect unity with God. That image was lost when Adam and Eve first sinned. Human beings have a free will in how they choose to live, but only the Holy Spirit, working through God’s Word, can lead a person to know and trust God.
Genesis 1:26; Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:10
Salvation
The message of the gospel is the good news that a loving God sent Jesus Christ to pay for the sins of all people. God offers and gives forgiveness and eternal life to all those who believe in Jesus as their Savior.
John 1:17; Romans 1:16; John 3:16
Faith
Faith is a gift from God, planted and nurtured by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit creates and maintains faith by means of the gospel in God’s Word and the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion. We believe, therefore, that our conversion is not our work. It is entirely the work of God’s grace.
John 1:12; Acts 10:43; Galatians 2:16
Christian Living
Faith in Jesus Christ is shown in the way a person lives. A healthy faith desires to do the will of God. Though the best works of a Christian will never be fully perfect, a Christian will continually strive to reflect God’s grace and mercy in how they live and treat others.
2 Corinthians 7:1; Galatians 5:6; Ephesians 2:10
The Bible
The Bible is God’s message for us. It was written by human authors through the verbal inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We believe the Bible is without error and is a Christian’s authority for faith and godly living. It points us to Jesus and teaches all we need to know for salvation.
2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:15-16; Luke 24:27
Baptism
Baptism was instituted by God. Using water and God’s Word it offers and gives the forgiveness of sins, spiritual life, and eternal salvation. It is meant for young and old, including children.
Matthew 28:19; John 3:5-6; Titus 3:5
Communion
Communion was instituted by Christ. Together with bread and wine we receive Jesus’ true body and blood. In this special meal Jesus gives the forgiveness of sins, strengthens our faith, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe. The Bible teaches that a person should be instructed about this meal before they receive it.
Matthew 26:26-28; 1 Corinthians 10:16; 1 Corinthians 11:27-28
Our Mission
Why We Exist
Our mission is the reason why we exist as a church and the greatest purpose of our lives. When you realize that Jesus changes everything, there is nothing better than sharing that message with others and helping them grow in their relationship with Jesus.
LEAD PEOPLE TO JESUS
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
- Matthew 28:18-20
Our Strategy
How We Will Do It
Our strategy is rooted in our beliefs and describes how we are going to accomplish our mission. We are committed to helping people grow their relationship with Jesus by providing intentional opportunities to: Grow in Faith, Connect in Groups, and Make an Impact. We call these The Big Three.
THE BIG THREE
Grow in Faith
We have a relationship with God because of Jesus. It is important to be intentional with growing that relationship. At NorthCross, we help people grow by providing opportunities for worship, prayer, and Bible study. We also assist people in developing their own habit of personal Bible study.
Connect in Relationship
God created us to be in relationship with others. We encourage NorthCross attenders to connect to other Christians by joining a small group. Life is better when we do it together.
Make an Impact
We have an opportunity to make an eternal impact in the lives of the people around us. NorthCross is designed to be a place where you feel comfortable bringing your unchurched friends to hear about Jesus. We also encourage attenders to make an impact by serving as a volunteer, talking to others about Jesus, and living a generous life by giving financially.
